Israel attacks Syrian bases following Golan Heights bomb

articlemain

Israel launched a series of attacks on Syrian military sites early on Wednesday morning in response to a roadside bomb that exploded the previous day in the Golan Heights, the IDF has confirmed.

Following the bombing on Tuesday, which wounded four Israeli soldiers, an IDF spokesperson said: “We will fulfil our mission to prevent, protect and defend against hostilities from Syria.”

He added this morning that Israeli military aircraft had “targeted Syrian army positions that aided yesterday’s attack against IDF soldiers.”

Among the Syrian bases hit were an army headquarters, a training camp and a facility storing artillery batteries.

All targets were located on the Syrian side of the Golan, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described yesterday as “filling up with jihadi and Hizbollah forces.”

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon blamed Syrian president Bashar al-Assad for the hostilities .

He said: “We hold the Assad regime responsible for what happens in its territory and if it continues to collaborate with terrorists striving to hurt Israel, then we will keep on exacting a heavy price from it and make it regret its actions.”
