The comedian is expecting his first child and community magazine Kveller has reported that he plans to be a ‘Jewish dad’
July 18, 2025 09:59Comedian Pete Davidson, 31, is set to become a father, his partner Elsie Hewitt announced this week..
Jewish magazine Kveller has reported that he plans to be a "Jewish dad" — but how Jewish is he?
Davidson was born in 1993 in Staten Island, New York to Amy Waters Davidson and Scott Davidson.
He did not have a Bar Mitzvah and is not on record as keeping kosher, having been raised a Catholic.
In fact, Davidson didn't even know he was Jewish until he was 25.
He revealed during one of his stand-up specials: "I did a 23andMe or an Ancestry. One of my boys came back and he came back neanderthal and he was talking all this weird neanderthal s***.
"He was like oh I'm neanderthal. It's actually the rarest f***ing [thing].
"I thought I need to get swabbed and it came back and I was like 50 per cent Jewish.
"I called my mum because I was raised catholic."
In 2017, he explained: “I’m just an Irish Jew. My mom was Irish; my dad was Jewish.
"I just found out like this year… I always wanted to be Jewish.”
Davidson’s father was a fireman who lost his life in the 9/11 attacks while attempting to rescue people from the World Trade Center.
The comedian has spoken extensively about his father’s sacrifice, including regarding how it has affected his view of the conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking on Saturday Night Live shortly after the outbreak of the Gaza War, he said: “This week we saw the horrible images and stories from Israel and Gaza. And I know what you’re thinking: Who better to comment on it than Pete Davidson?
"Well, in a lot of ways, I am a good person to talk about it because when I was 7 years old, my dad was killed in a terrorist attack, so I know something about what that’s like.
"I saw so many terrible pictures this week of children suffering, Israeli children and Palestinian children. And it took me back to a really horrible, horrible place.
"No one in this world deserves to suffer like that, especially not kids.”
