a prominent Greek politician who is a member of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's governing coalition has provoked a storm by posting a picture of the gates of Auschwitz bearing the words "We remain in Europe" instead of the infamous slogan "Work sets you free".
The Facebook post by Dimitris Kammenos, a member the right-wing Independent Greeks party, prompted a furious reaction from the Jewish community in Greece.
The Central Board of the Jewish Communities in Greece condemned "the malevolent trivialisation of the Holocaust of the six million Jews and all the victims of this barbarity, a trivialisation that at the same time downplays the importance of the struggle against fascism and Nazism in our country".
Mr Kammenos is considered to be one of the main opponents of any deal with the EU.
