Five women were arrested at the Western Wall on Thursday morning, just two days after a breakthrough meeting on how to resolve tensions at the site.

An estimated 200 women attended the monthly service held by women's rights group Women of the Wall and five were arrested for attempting to wear tallitot, including the group’s director Lesley Sachs.

Two Knesset members, Michal Rosin and Tamar Zandberg, also joined the prayers and wore tallitot, but because they have parliamentary immunity they were not arrested. Police also arrested a Chasidic man.

Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky met American Jewish leaders on Tuesday and agreed on a plan to allow egalitarian prayer at the Kotel.

The plan suggests that the Kotel plaza be enlarged to allow a further section, next to the men’s and women’s prayer areas, for egalitarian services.
