America's Jewish king of satire has only just vacated his throne - and many are missing him already.
Jon Stewart appeared as the host of the country's favourite political comedy programme The Daily Show for the last time on Thursday.
Jessica Williams, the Daily Show's youngest ever correspondent, told Entertainment Weekly this week: "I think that he's going to leave behind a lot of people who have made him their friend."
The comedian, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, left the Comedy Central show after 16 years in which it won multiple awards. Today, it draws an audience of 2.2 million.
The 52-year-old became known for his cutting coverage of presidential elections. He also came under fire for criticising Israel, attracting the label of "self-hating Jew" in the press.
Two weeks ago, in his last interview with Barack Obama, Mr Stewart responded to the President's assessment of the Islamic Republic as "anti-American" and "antisemitic" by quipping: "Sounds like a good partner for peace".
Mr Stewart will be replaced by South African comedian Trevor Noah.
