Dame Helen Mirren will play Israeli PM Golda Meir in a new biopic by Oscar-winning director Guy Nattiv.
The British stage and screen legend, 75, will star as the politician in the film about what BAFTA-winning producer Michael Kuhn called her “final chapter”, chronicling the events of the Yom Kippur War.
Mr Nattiv, who previously produced The Duchess and Florence Foster Jenkins told the Hollywood Reporter: “As someone who was born during the Yom Kippur War, I am honoured to tell this fascinating story about the first and only woman to ever lead Israel.
"Nicholas Martin's brilliant script dives into Golda's final chapter as the country faces a deadly surprise attack during the holiest day of the year, a core of delusional generals undermining Golda's judgment, all the while undergoing secret treatments for her illness.
“I could not be more excited to work with the legendary Miss Mirren to bring this epic, emotional and complex story to life."
Dame Helen isn’t the only actor set to portray the former leader.
Last month, it was announced that Unorthodox star Shira Haas is set to play the ‘Mother Israel’ in a television series, Lioness, executive produced by Barbara Streisand.
