A counter-terrorism expert has warned European Jews that they will be increasingly targeted by Daesh as the terrorist group loses ground in the Middle East.
Professor Boaz Ganor, who founded the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism think-tank, pointed to last year's deadly attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris as an example of what to expect.
Speaking during a briefing organised by pro-Israel research organisation Bicom, he also urged European countries to work together to build tighter border controls.
He explained that "Daesh are focusing on attacks on European soil, and when they do this they see a double benefit from attacking Jewish targets.
"This is because attacking a Jewish site sends a message both to the Europeans and to those who they perceive as their enemy: the Jews. I don't have any calming messages for Jews in Europe.
"Daesh has been losing ground and support, so the cost-benefit calculation has changed. The attacks in Europe serve to deter countries from attacking Daesh in Syria and Iraq. The attacks prove that they are losing. They are coming from fear and frustration."
