This year’s Cannes Film Festival programme includes a long list of Jewish film-makers.

The prolific director-duo, Joel and Ethan Coen, are one of the festival’s hottest talking points with their new film Inside Llewyn Davis about a folk singer in 1960s New York.

Roman Polanski, Holocaust survivor and controversial director, has two films at this year’s festival. Weekend of a Champion, a 1970s documentary about Jackie Stewart, and Venus in Fur based on the Broadway stage play, are both highly anticipated.

The grandchild of Jewish immigrants, Michael Douglas, will be starring alongside Matt Damon in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra. The director of Oceans 11 and the recent thriller Side Effects is a favourite for the prestigious Palme D’Or prize.

James Franco, who plays Harry in the Spiderman series, will be screening As I Lay Dying, an adaption of the book by William Faulkner. The young Californian actor is infamous for his leftfield YouTube films.

The programme includes 19 films from around the world. It was announced earlier this year that Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg will head the festival’s jury.
