Israeli police clashed with Muslim worshippers on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as security forces entered the compound on the anniversary of the Old City’s capture during the Six Day War.

Police said Palestinians were protesting a decision to allow Jews into the complex, known to Muslims as the Haram esh-Sharif, on Sunday.

This year’s Jerusalem Day anniversary is controversial because, for the first time in 30 years, it coincides with the final days of Ramadan.

The complex has been closed by Israeli police to Jews for the last 10 days of Ramadan over the past decade.
