Former "First Daughter" Chelsea Clinton has finalised plans for her wedding to Jewish fiance Marc Mezvinsky, according to reports.

Speculation has been growing for months about the event and now a resident has let slip that the pair are likely to marry in the upstate New York village of Rhinebeck.

Ms Clinton, 30, and Mr Mezvinsky are believed to be marrying on July 31 at a mansion owned by a donor to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, Kathleen Hammer.

The 50-acre Astor Courts estate is modelled on Paris’s Versailles.

Local teenagers have reportedly been clearing the grounds of the private home in preparation for the couple's wedding.

They became engaged in November last year.

Mr Mezvinsky, an investment banker for Goldman Sachs, took his Methodist bride-to-be to Yom Kippur services near their Manhattan home last year, fuelling rumours that Chelsea, who was brought up in her mother's Methodist faith, might be converting to Judaism — although this remains as speculation.

The pair met when Bill Clinton was President in 1993, before studying together at Stanford University.

Both have experience of life during a political scandal; Mr Mezvinsky’s father, a Democratic member of Congress in Iowa, spent time in prison for fraud.

The guest list is being kept tightly under wraps, but former vice-president Al Gore, currently under public scrutiny over his separation from his wife Tipper, has already confirmed that he will not be attending.
