Carer from the Philippines wins Israel's X-Factor

articlemain

A 47-year-old carer from the Philippines has been named Israel’s first X-Factor winner, beating three other acts in last night’s live final in Tel Aviv.

Rose Fostanes, who moved to Israel from Manila four years ago, won audiences over with her final song, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”, which she performed with a live orchestra.

Before entering the competition, Ms Fostanes worked as a cleaner and carer for an elderly woman in Tel Aviv – sending money home to her family in the Philippines.

She told Reuters before the final that her success on the show would change people’s perceptions of Filipinos, who are often synonymous with “caregivers” in Israel.

She said: “Everybody in the world will know that Filipinos, even working as a cleaner, can also share their talent.”

Runners-up in the final were solo artists Eden Ben Zaken, Uri Shakiv, and boy-band Fusion – whose breakout British star Adir Tov has been updating the JC every week with their success.
