A Chasid has reportedly been knifed by a Muslim in Strasbourg.

According to newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche, the attacker shouted 'Allahu Akbar' as he stabbed the 62-year-old rabbi, who has been identified as Chalom Levy, outside a restaurant.

Strasbourg's chief rabbi Rene Gutman told AFP that the suspect had previously attacked a member of the local Jewish community in 2010.

However, terrorism has reportedly been ruled out; the attacker is believed to have a history of mental health issues.

Mr Levy was moderately injured in the attack.

France has been in a state of emergency since the Paris attacks last November and remains on high alert following recent terrorist incidents in Nice and near Rouen.
