Jewish food seems in everyone's good cookbooks these days. Hairy Bikers Si King and Dave Myers (above) were in pastry paradise in their BBC2 show, making the Zeeuwse bolus, a sweet plaited roll brought to Holland by 17th-century Jews.

In a recent episode of BBC drama Upstairs Downstairs, Lady Agnes was initiated into a novel delicacy in London's East End: a salt beef sandwich.

And this week's Sunday Times offered Jamie Oliver's recipe for "Jewish penicillin", with "Jewish fine noodles" - lokshen to you and me.
