During filming of his autobiographical documentary, Made in Scotland, which aired last week on BBC, Sir Billy Connolly refuelled with a kosher salt beef sandwich from Mark’s Deli in Glasgow.
Deli owner Mark Cohen (above) appears in the film, recreating an episode from the comedian’s childhood — often recalled in his stage routines — which revolve around a pair of knitted woollen swimming trunks. “They needed some outdoor swimmers,” explained Mr Cohen, “and me and my friends swim outdoors in the cold Scottish lochs. They had some professional knitters knit us trunks to re-enact the scene.”
