Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan will not appeal the Football Association’s decision to give him a six-week ban and £50,000 fine for breaking racism rules.
Mr Whelan’s suspension will come into effect on Thursday evening, meaning that the chairman will be barred from “football and football activities” until February 19.
The former footballer was found guilty by the FA’s Regulatory Commission of breaking its code of conduct when he made six comments about Jews and Chinese people to The Guardian in November.
Although the chairman accepted the charges against him, he disputed saying that Jews are “very shrew people” and that they “chase money more than everybody else,” both of which remarks the FA found he had said.
However, the FA in its decision stated that Mr Whelan “is not a racist” and “did not intend to cause any offence by his comments,” which have enabled him to remain in charge of Wigan.
Mr Whelan had said he would resign if the FA found him guilty of racism.
