London producer Wayne Godfrey has won a top film award for his latest offering — and he had just 48 hours to make it.
Mr Godfrey, 27, runs production company ‘thefyzz’. Its short film, Fused, scooped first place at the 48 Hour Film Project, which invites filmmakers from around the world to produce a complete short movie in just two days. Entrants are given a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all of which need to be included in the film, and the films are then judged by the public and a selection of industry experts.
Mr Godfrey’s six-minute romantic short centres on the humorous and unexpected events facing a group of friends at a dinner party when the power keeps cutting out. It stars Iddo Goldberg, who appears alongside Daniel Craig in Edward Zwick’s war epic Defiance.
Mr Godfrey tells People: “It was an insane weekend. You don’t sleep for more than 48 hours — you are living off adrenaline. Doing the short film was a fun way to get together with a few others and be creative.”
Having beaten the other 30 entries in the London category, Fused will compete against the winners in 70 cities around the globe, at the final to be held in Miami next year. “Winning London was a great experience but to win overall would be so cool.”
Fused has since been bought by Daniel Shakhani of RDS Media Capital and will be distributed in 2009.
A former director of acquisitions and development for Goldcrest Films International, Mr Godfrey produced film comedy Three And Out, starring The Office’s Mackenzie Crook. He is now working on a number of other feature projects. Home is in West Hampstead, North London. He is a member of Mill Hill Synagogue.
