Bernie Sanders has responded to Hillary Clinton’s jibe that “nobody likes him” by saying that his wife does – “on a good day”.

Mr Sanders, a US senator and one of the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination for President, was embroiled in a row with Mrs Clinton after her remarks in a forthcoming documentary were repeated by the Hollywood Reporter.

“He was in Congress for years [and] had one senator support him,” she said in the released excerpts from the Hulu programme.

The 2016 presidential candidate also called Mr Sanders “a career politician” and said his claims to represent American workers were “baloney”.

She added: “I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.”

The former US Secretary of State also criticised the Vermont senator’s campaign team and his online support, known as “Bernie bros”, who she accused of “relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women”.

In 2016, Mrs Clinton edged past Mr Sanders in a hotly-contested and often bitter race for the Democratic nomination for US President.

In response to the attack, he said: “On a good day, my wife likes me, so let’s clear the air on that one.”

Asked why he thought Mrs Clinton was still talking about the 2016 election, Sanders said: “That’s a good question. You should ask her.”

The senator has also been engaged in a spat with fellow Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren, with the two recently seen rowing onstage after a televised debate.
