New York’s Jewish voters swung dramatically away from the Democrats because of far-left “anti-Israel fanaticism”, re-elected representative Ritchie Torres has claimed.
Roughly 45 per cent of the state's Jewish population voted for Trump compared to 30 per cent in 2020. Kamala Harris took 55 per cent – down from the 69 per cent won by President Joe Biden.
"The Anti-Israel fanaticism of the far left is entirely to blame for the erosion of Jewish support,” wrote Torres on X.
The pro-Israel representative, who is not Jewish, won more than 77 per cent of the vote in New York's 15th congressional district, which covers the south Bronx.
Maury Litwack of the Teach Coalition, who has been monitoring Jewish voter patterns in New York House races and battleground states, said: “I’m so so proud of Jewish turnout across the country. We are getting early reports in and huge groundbreaking numbers.”
Litwack, who has been tracking Jewish voting trends, attributed the Republican gains to growing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s response to rising antisemitism across the United States and on college campuses.
The impact of Jewish voter mobilisation was already evident in recent Democratic primary elections, where progressive Representatives Jamaal Bowman of New York’s 16th Congressional District and Cori Bush of Missouri were defeated.
The Republican Jewish Coalition made unprecedented investments in the election cycle, committing $15 million to support Trump while arguing that Harris aligns with progressive values rather than Jewish voter interests.
