Vice President Kamala Harris has condemned the flag burning and “dangerous hate-fueled rhetoric” at anti-Israel protests against Netanyahu in Washington this week.
The prospective Democratic nominee slammed the burning of an American flag and spraying of Hamas graffiti outside Union Station in Washington DC as “despicable acts by unpatriotic protesters and dangerous hate-fueled rhetoric.”
In an official statement, VP Harris said: "I condemn any individuals associating with the brutal terrorist organization Hamas, which has vowed to annihilate the State of Israel and kill Jews. Pro-Hamas graffiti and rhetoric is abhorrent and we must not tolerate it in our nation.
“I condemn the burning of the American flag. That flag is a symbol of our highest ideals as a nation and represents the promise of America. It should never be desecrated in that way.
“I support the right to peacefully protest, but let’s be clear: antisemitism, hate and violence of any kind have no place in our nation.”
As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepared to address US Congress, protesters painted “Hamas is Coming” on the Columbus Fountain in Washington. Anti-Israel protesters mounted a replica of Liberty Bell, waving Palestinian flags and scrawling “F*** Israel” on the monument.
Other protesters daubed monuments with inverted red triangles - the symbol used by the terror group to mark enemy targets and by protesters to show their support for Hamas.
At least six people were arrested during the Washington protest, which also featured the torching of a Netanyahu effigy.
