A Orthodox man has been shot in a drive-by shooting outside a synagogue in Miami in a possible antisemitic hate crime.

The man was reportedly walking close to Young Israel of North Miami, where he is a member, when he was shot multiple times at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

The man, who was shot in the legs, was taken to Aventura Medical Center and is in a stable condition, Miami-Dade Police said.

A member of Hatzalah, the Jewish emergency volunteer service, was on the scene and treated him before authorities arrived.

Yeshiva World named the victim as Yosef Noach ben Leah Tzivyah and urged readers to say Tehillim for him.

Some outlets reported he was 69 but others reported he was 58.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Jewish Agency chair Isaac Herzog had been in touch with Miami community leaders and believed the attack was motivated by antisemitism.

The agency's vice-chairman Yaakov Hagoel said: "I wish complete recovery for the wounded... 

"I call upon the US authorities to put an end to the wave of antisemitic terrorist attacks that are being perpetrated against Jews in the United States. It’s time for Jews to be able to live their lives like any other citizen."

Police are investigating and said a black Chevrolet Impala circled the area twice before the driver got out and opened fire.
