It was the most unexpected - and heart-warming - exchange of the current season of reality show Below Deck, which tracks the lives of the crew of a luxury yacht.
Chat between crewmates generally centres on folding napkins, mixing cocktails and the drinking habits of their guests. But then steward Barbie Pascaul confided to colleague Kyle that she was planning to convert to Judaism, “one day, God willing.”
“I love Jewish people and my soul is Jewish,” she told him.
Barbie – who had previously called herself a “spoiled bitch” on the show – said she liked that a Jewish husband had to give his wife three things: “a house, clothes and sex.”
She recounted a trip to Israel where she visited the Kotel and “bawled my eyes out,” at the feeling that she was connected to something “way bigger than me.”
“The closer I got to Judaism, the more I found my soul,” she added.
Currently it’s just an option that she’s thinking about. “I’m not ready yet to make that change,” she says, “but I really want it and I feel it. Jewish people are the f***ing best and I want to be a part of them.”
Pascaul may not be Jewish yet, but her Instagram account boasts a pinned post which states ‘I stand with Israel’. Welcome aboard, Barbie.
