Gal Gadot was given extra security last summer because of her outspoken support for her native Israel, Variety reported on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old actress, who served in the Israel Defense Forces before her Hollywood career, received death threats after her Snow White co-star Rachel Zegler, 23, shared a pro-Palestinian message on social media last August, the magazine reported.
Zegler wrote “and always remember, free palestine” in a thread on X about the $270 million remake of the 1937 animated classic, which released last weekend with an anaemic $43 million box office take. Death threats to Gadot “spiked” shortly thereafter, Variety reported, and Disney provided extra security for her.
Zegler then courted further controversy with a contentious political post in the wake of Donald’s Trump’s election victory last November, and had to be assigned a “social media guru” by Disney to prevent further damage, according to Variety.
