Company apologises and stops making ‘swastika’ mattress

Firm said the shape formed by stitching pattern on the product was unintentional

A company in the United States has apologised and stopped producing a line of memory foam mattresses with a stitched-in pattern unintentionally resembling a series of swastikas.

MLILY's fusion supreme mattress, priced up to $2,999 (around £2,290), was being sold in the US.

A concerned customer took to Twitter on Monday and said there were swastikas “all over” his new mattress.

MLILY was first alerted to concern over the pattern after the JC reached out to its foam certification agency, whose label was on the mattress.

It then “moved quickly to rectify the matter,” a spokesperson said on Thursday.

“MLILY apologizes to the Jewish community and other groups offended by an image resembling a swastika that was unintentionally sewn into the covers of our Fusion Supreme mattress being sold in the United States.

“Immediately upon being made aware of this problem, we ceased production of the mattress and redesigned the line’s pattern.

“We are supplying new covers with a different pattern to retailers and customers so they can replace the old covers,” a spokesperson said.
