Yavneh College has closed early ahead of the summer term after a "large" covid-19 spike saw more than 250 pupils and staff self-isolating.
In a letter to parents, seen by the JC, headteacher Spencer Lewis said the Borehamwood secondary school would switch to home learning this term, which ends on Wednesday.
The decision was made after consulting with the local authority, he said.
“As you will know, we have had a large number of positive Covid-19 cases among students and staff in the last few days resulting in well over 250 pupils and staff self-isolating,” the head wrote.
“I am so very sorry that I have had to take this decision which is the last thing I wanted to do.”
Schools nationwide have been reporting covid-19 outbreak as the Delta variant continues to spread in the race against vaccines.
More locally in the borough of Hertsmere, a total of 377 cases were reported in the last week, an increase of 157 since the previous seven days.
