Jewish pupils were prevented from leaving school on Friday when police responded to reports that a man was in possession of a firearm in the local area.

JFS emailed parents to say a man had been detained at Kingsbury Station, which is a short walk from the school.

“In conjunction with our security team, we made the decision to hold students until we were assured that the area was safe, which is now the case,” they said.

The Met said they had used a taser to detain the individual, who is now in custody.

No shots were fired during the incident, the force confirmed.

The Community Security Trust said: “We are aware of an incident at Kingsbury Station that has required a police response.

"As far as we are aware, its not related to the Jewish community but as a precaution a local Jewish school temporarily advised students not to leave the premises.

"We are in close contact with the police and the school and will provide further updates if necessary.”
