A video featuring the voices of “young unapologetic Zionists” has been released in an attempt to challenge the claim that the overwhelming of majority of British Jewish students oppose plans to extend Israel's sovereignty over the West Bank.

Harry Markham, National Director of Magshimey Herut UK, told the JC the near six-minute long recording had been circulated on social media ''in order to counter the myth that there is an anti-annexation consensus amongst young British Jews''.

It follows an ongoing campaign led by the left-wing UK group Yachad, which has released videos and orchestrated petitions signed by up to 1,000 British Jews voicing opposition to the annexation plans. Together with US lobby group J-Street, Yachad yesterday launched a new global campaign to oppose annexation, called Global Jewish Coalition.

The Facebook video shows 16 student and Zionist activists voicing support for the plans outlined by Benjamin Netanyahu in response to President Trump's so-called Middle East peace plan.

Ruchama Tannen, a student at University College London, says: “We are young British Jews whose voices speak for the unheard many. For too long now our voices have been ignored. Enough is enough.''

Activist Mia Gray says the video is ''made of people with different views, beliefs and affiliations who have all come together for this cause because we truly believe in it.''

Marcus Langford, President of the Reading University's Jewish Society adds: “We as Jews stand by Israel asserting its sovereignty over Judea and Samaria (West Bank) the historic heartland of Israel.''

Elisha Tannen, of Kings College London, speaks of the ''connection that Jews have to Judea and Samaria both historically and religiously.''

Meanwhile Jacob West, whose family belong to Woodford Forest United Synagogue, speaks of the Jordan Valley – one of the areas slated for annexation - as a ''security must for Israel.''

Withdrawing from the West Bank would ''pose a massive threat to Israel's security'', reasons Leanne Rochelle, a member of young Zionism Magshimey Herut organisation.

Criticising those who suggest that the actions of the Israeli government put Jews living in Britain at risk, Hannah Fenton, of Essex Friends of Israel, says: "This is plain victim blaming. It is a contemptible argument Jews and the state of Israel are not responsible for antisemitism. Racists and antisemites are.''

Ending the video with a barbed criticism of the community organisations that ignore the views of the opinions shared in the video, Mr Markham says: ''If you want our community to be truly pluralistic and inclusive, you can no longer ignore our voices.''
