A student believed to be from the Jewish King Solomon High School has been stabbed.

The teenager, who was in school uniform, was reportedly knifed outside a charity shop, near the school premises, in Barkingside, east London, at around 8.20am.

A witness told the Ilford Recorder: “There was a group of young boys and I think they were cycling.

“All I saw was a punch – I didn’t see the knife – and then a black boy fell down. Another black boy ran off.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed and had been taken to hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said his family had been informed.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed that an air ambulance had been despatched to the scene and that it took an injured male to an east London hospital as a priority.

The Community Security Trust (CST) said it was liaising with King Solomon High following the stabbing.

A spokesman said: “The CST works closely with King Solomon to ensure it has good security on site.

“We contact the school and Redbridge police following terrible incidents like this, although at this time the motivation remains unclear.”

A spokesperson for Redbridge council said: "We are aware of this distressing incident and our best wishes are with the student and his family."
