Representatives of the Jewish Labour Movement claim they have not been allowed to attend a Labour Party meeting discussing antisemitism.

The meeting of Labour's national executive committee's antisemitism working group had invited the Jewish group to attend today's session and "contribute to the discussion on this issue".

But JLM members were later told they would not be allowed into the room, having waited at reception at Labour Party headquarters for almost an hour.

Earlier today, Adam Langleben, who lost his seat on Barnet Council in last week’s local elections, tweeted: “Just before the election I was invited with others from @JewishLabour to attend the @UKLabour NEC Working Group on Antisemitism meeting today at 4.

"I have just been uninvited along with others. Apparently a 'misunderstanding'."

Mr Langleben, who has been vocal about Labour’s need to combat antisemitism more effectively after the party lost seats in Barnet which it had held for more than 40 years, later added: “To my great disappointment the Labour NEC Working Group on Antisemitism have been meeting for one hour now.

"We, @JewishLabour, have been waiting patiently for an hour. We will not be allowed in. They are discussing antisemitism without the only Jewish affiliate.”

The JC understands those attending the meeting include, Jennie Formby, Labour's general secretary; David Feldman, a professor who was co-chair of Baroness Chakrabarti's inquiry into antisemitism in the Labour Party; and Shabana Mahmood, a Labour MP and NEC member who has previously participated in protests calling for boycotts of Israeli goods.

The invite was sent to the JLM last month, but Buzzfeed reported there had been an error in the invitation process. It is understood Peter Mason, JLM national secretary, had been expected to attend in his capacity as a member of Labour's national constitutional committee (NCC).

The site reported that a Labour spokesperson had said: "Jennie Formby has written to Adam Langleben to clarify that the invitation was only extended to people with a role in Labour’s disciplinary process.

"Peter Mason has first-hand experience of our processes and his invitation was in that capacity, not as National Secretary of the Jewish Labour Movement.

"An invitation had already been sent to the Jewish Labour Movement for a separate meeting with Jennie Formby to discuss combatting antisemitism."
