A man has been banned from football matches for five years after he shared footage online which showed antisemitic chanting during the World Cup.

Michael Herbert, a 57-year-old from Derby, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Saturday, where he was sentenced to the banning order, the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) said.

Herbert was one of three men served with notices by police under section 21B of the Football Spectators Act 1989. The other two, aged 52 and 58, will appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The charges releate to an antisemitic incident in a Russian bar in Volgograd, which hosted England’s match against Tunisia.

In the video, two men were seen giving Nazi salutes and another could be heard singing: "Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz, Sieg Heil! Hitler’s going to gas them again".

Nazi gestures and symbols are illegal in Russia. Following the incident, an FA spokesman said: "We strongly condemn the actions of the people in this video."

He added: "The disgraceful conduct of the individuals in this video does not represent the values of the majority of English football fans supporting the team in Russia.

"People who are subjects of banning orders are prevented from attending matches both at home and abroad for the duration of the term, which can last for up to 10 years.

"Breaching an order is punishable by a maximum of six months in prison or a fine of £5,000, or both."
