The Government will reportedly publish stand-alone figures on anti-Jewish hate crime for the first time, in a move which is likely to rekindle the antisemitism row in the Labour Party.
The Community Security Trust (CST) reported that there were 727 antisemitic incidents between January and June this year.
Although it represented an eight per cent drop on the January-June figure from the previous year, it was the second-highest total recorded the first half of any year.
The communal organisation also said that 34 incidents included references to the Labour Party’s ongoing antisemitism crisis, which “attracted significant media and political attention from late March into April 2018.
The Mail on Sunday revealed that, for the first time, the Government is to publish its own figures on antisemitism.
Although it will coincide with National Hate Crime Awareness Week, the Mail on Sunday speculated that it may reignite the debate over antisemitism within the Labour Party.
A Labour Party spokesperson said: “Labour is committed to tackling antisemitism in all its forms, wherever it arises and we have taken action to speed up and strengthen our disciplinary procedures.
“There is a deeply disturbing rise in antisemitism across Europe. We must work together to eradicate it from our societies.”
