An activist who appeared in a Labour Party political broadcast previously compared Israel to the Nazis.

Online blog Guido Fawkes revealed that Jawad Khan, who featured in an election broadcast in May, had made the statement during the Israel/Gaza conflict in 2014.

In the broadcast, Mr Khan said “We need to stand up for Labour; It’s the only way to give ourselves a decent future.”

On August 5 2014, Mr Khan linked to a Daily Mail article about the war, adding the comment: “Anyone else see the similarities between Israel and Nazis?”

Comparing the actions of Israel to the Nazis was one of the key points that Shami Chakrabarti highlighted for criticism in her recent report on antisemitism , stating that such a comparison was “always incendiary… such remarks can only intended to be incendiary rather than persuasive.”

Ms Chakrabarti went on to state, as one of her recommendations, that “Labour members should resist the use of Hitler, Nazi and Holocaust metaphors, distortions and comparisons in debates about Israel-Palestine in particular.”
