Football’s European governing body, Uefa, is investigating after an antisemitic banner was displayed by supporters of the Serbian club Partizan Belgrade.

The banner, which was on show throughout Thursday’s Europa League match against Tottenham Hotspur in Belgrade, read “Only Jews and Pussies”, thought to be a play on the title of the BBC sitcom, “Only Fools and Horses”.

Tottenham Hotspur is known for having a large number of Jewish fans.

Uefa officials were made aware of the banner during the game but no attempt was made to remove it.

However a delegate was seen to take photographic evidence after the match.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who did not see the banner, said: “If this is true, then it is an unacceptable thing. It is very disrespectful. This is a shame, very disrespectful and unacceptable.”

Partizan Belgrade boss Marko Nikolic appeared unaware of fans antisemitic behaviour.

He said: “I want to congratulate the crowd. The support was great and not only great but everything went well. It was a wonderful, sporting environment without the slightest problem.”

Tottenham, are expected to make an official complaint within the next 48 hours and Uefa are expected to assess the official match report before deciding what action to .
