Criminal barrister Robert Rinder, otherwise known as daytime TV’s Judge Rinder, is the latest celebrity to don his sequins for Strictly Come Dancing.

The reality TV judge, from Southgate, north London, was announced on Monday as the 12th contestant for the dancing competition, which will return to our screens in September.

He joins a line-up of would-be waltzers including former shadow chancellor Ed Balls, Olympic gymnast Claudia Frangapane and singer Will Young.

Mr Rinder, who presides over courtroom disputes in his ITV show, said he had agreed to do the show in tribute to his grandmother.

"The only thing I knew would make my grandmother more proud than watching my TV courtroom was to see me dressed up in white tie doing the foxtrot," he said. "So, although I suspect the latter will be far more difficult, I am doing Strictly Come Dancing for her.

"No doubt the judges will be as fair, kind and thoughtful as me”.
