Browsing online, I came across an Independent preview of the Jewish Museum’s forthcoming exhibition on Jews and football, “Four Four Jew”.
I was surprised to read in the feature that Jews are “twice as likely” as the general population to go to a football match.
The information was said to have come from an article which was published in the JC in the 1990s.
I should not have been surprised. Because when I looked up the source in our archive, I discovered that I was a co-author of the piece apparently cited.
I am afraid, however, there is not a grain of truth in the statistic about Jewish spectators.
That’s because the article was a spoof survey, which was concocted just for Purim.
