Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked with thousands of communal ceremonies and events across Britain on Wednesday.
In city centres from Belfast and Cardiff to Portsmouth, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) will screen artworks for its Flames for Humanity's Heroes project, which honours those who stood up for their beliefs.
The initiative is related to the theme for this year’s commemoration, which is “Don’t Stand By.”
In central London, the main national event - organised by HMDT - will be attended by actors Freddie Fox, Sheila Hancock CBE, Robert Lindsay and Kevin Whately, as well as producer and historian David Olusoga.
An edited version will be broadcast on BBC Two tonight at 7pm, with a voiceover provided by news presenter Mishal Husain.
Earlier on Wednesday, a talk by Holocaust survivor Rudi Oppenheimer to students at Pimlico Academy in Westminster in central London was live-streamed online to more than 200 schools in Britain.
The Holocaust Centre in Nottingham held a ceremony this morning, which saw speeches from local rabbis Tanya Sakhnovich and Moshe Perez.
Many politicians, including Prime Minister David Cameron and Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn, have signed the organisation’s book of remembrance.
Speaking at Prime Minister's Question Time this afternoon, Mr Cameron said: "It's right our country stands together to remember the darkest hour of humanity."
