New data from media accreditation organisation ABC has shown that the JC reached more than one million readers on average a month during 2023.
The verified data, recorded between July and December 2023, recorded the average monthly unique users of the JC as 1.17m per month, more than four times the Jewish population of the UK.
Internal figures recorded by the JC show a 100 per cent increase in traffic to TheJC.com year-on-year, a substantial growth in US readership as well as an increase in traffic from all referral sources.
In 2022, the JC reached just over 500,000 readers monthly.
The JC’s head of digital Josh Kaplan said: “As a newspaper that’s more than 180 years old, it’s vital for us to remain relevant to the UK Jewish community and readers across the diaspora. We’ve worked hard and invested in our team to reach our readers wherever they get their news, and I’m thrilled to see us growing in a tough digital environment.”
“We’ve been experimenting with new platforms and have optimised our technology, and it's great to see that work pay off.”
The JC’s social media platforms, which are also measured by ABC, also grew dramatically in this period, with the JC’s Twitter following growing by more than 20% over 2023.
According to publicly available data from SimilarWeb, TheJC.com is one of the most-read Jewish websites outside of Israel, bigger than JewishNews.co.uk, JTA.org or Algemeiner.com.
The JC also outperformed other British niche news sites including 5Pillars and The Tablet and was read more times than both combined.
2023 marks a return to ABC accreditation for the JC for the first time since 2019, amidst a declining number of publishers choosing to publicly accredit their readership.
