A petition calling for Syrian refugees to be allowed into the UK has been delivered to Downing Street.
The document — signed by 630 people — is part of the Jewish Council for Racial Equality’s campaign urging the government to implement a refugee resettlement programme.
Four rabbis, along with JCore director Edie Friedman, presented the petition at No 10.
One of the rabbis, Jeremy Gordon, said: “If it wasn’t for the welcome this country afforded my family, we would have been caught in the horrors of the Holocaust. As a British Jew, I appeal to my government to welcome some of those who are suffering so greatly in Syria now.”
Dr Friedman added: “We must play our part in offering them a place of safety — it’s the very least we can do.”
