The A-level results of Immanuel College pupils have given outgoing head Philip Skelker the perfect send-off.

In a performance digest issued on Wednesday, the Bushey school reported that more than a third of the 66 exam students achieved three A* or A grades, with eight attaining three or more A*s.

Over half the exams sat were passed at A* or A, with 92 per cent graded between A* and C. Ten per cent of candidates will be taking up places at Oxford, Cambridge or medical school.

Mr Skelker was “delighted” by the performance. “This clearly demonstrates immense effort and accomplishment in our students’ chosen subjects and is testament to the dedication and commitment of Immanuel’s teachers.”

At Manchester Mesivta — where boys sit their A-levels at 17 to facilitate yeshivah study — the star performers were Moshe Steinberg (four A*s, one B) and Simcha Brownson (three A*s, one A, one B). Saul Yardley, Joshua Gillis and Mordchai Fruediger also excelled.

Principal Rabbi Binyomin Sulzbacher congratulated “all the pupils and staff on the hard work and effort needed to receive such results. Our pupils achieved their results even whilst devoting each morning to a full programme of kodesh [Jewish] studies.”

At Liverpool’s King David High, 85 per cent of Jewish pupils achieved A* to C in their subjects. All Jewish studies pupils passed the exam with grades between A* and C, Sophie Ettinger getting an A*, Head Brigid Smith also highlighted “notable results” from Jewish pupils Samantha Cooper (head girl), Leah Blake, Georgia Bracey, Anthony Chinn and Ryan Grant.

Mrs Smith said the grades “reflect the hard work of pupils and staff”.

At the Hasmonean High in north-west London, one student achieved six A-levels and three attained five. The overall pass rate for the 122 candidates was 99 per cent and 92 per cent of exams were passed at between grade A*-C.

“Our students have once again shown why they are the next generation of leaders in the community,” said executive head Rabbi David Meyer. “Their outstanding academic achievements combined with their extensive Jewish learning and wider skills have ensured that they are fully prepared for the next stage in their lives.”
