Stewards at a recent Tottenham Hotspurs match allegedly removed a fan’s Israeli flag because it depicted a Star of David.
According to a Facebook post on a Spurs fan group, the flag had been hung before the match, but was removed by stewards after the fan refused to take it down.
When the fan asked why they were not removing other non-Israeli flags from fans, a steward allegedly replied that they did not carry the Star of David.
The club confirmed it was aware of a recent incident involving stewards removing an Israeli flag, but did not comment on the specifics of that incident.
In a statement, a Spurs spokesperson said: “A football match is not an appropriate arena to display flags of any political or religious affiliation or anything that could possibly be considered inflammatory.
“This can include country flags during times of political conflicts, campaigns or issues.”
This comes after Spurs launched a fan consultation into the use of the term ‘Yid’ after renewed antisemitic chanting by rival supporters.
The fan was said to be allowed to collect the flag after the game.
