Former City man Spencer Gelding has been appointed business director of charity Laniado UK - the British fundraising arm of the Laniado Hospital in Netanya, Israel.
Mr Gelding, 33, left a 15-year career in the City - most recently in the jewellery industry - to take up the new role. He hopes to reach out to City boys and get them to believe in the importance of giving. "We want to get back to basics and get people excited about charity, especially in the current economic climate," Mr Gelding tells People. "It's not just about one-off donations. Charity can be sexy and meaningful."
North London-based Mr Gelding says charity work is in his blood. A former head of Zionist, pluralist youth movement Hanoar Hatzioni, he also spent a year working for JNF and was chairman of Young Jewish Care. "I discovered Laniado and decided now was the right time to switch from the business world."
