Eighteen-year-old songwriter Sophie Hiller has been pretty busy of late. Following the release of her single Forget You, which is creating a storm on iTunes, she has since been putting the finishing touches to an accompanying video. And now she is working on her debut album.

The pop video was produced by film director Rod Butcher after he saw her perform. She tells People: “Doing the video was a lot of fun. I am really enjoying my music at the moment.”

A former student at Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School in Barnet, Miss Hiller describes her style as “jazzy, souly and funky with a modern twist”. Her main vocal influences include Alicia Keys, Susan Tedeschi, Aretha Franklin and Amy Winehouse. Since leaving school, Miss Hiller has built up a large fan base both in England and abroad.

Since becoming a regular guest at venues including The Regal Room and The Bedford, her talents have been acknowledged by some of the top writers and producers in the country, such as Alan Glass, who has written for Aretha Franklin; George Benson and Liberty X; and Toby Chapman, who has worked with Kylie and Girls Aloud. Would she ever enter the X-Factor? “It’s not for me. I think it’s a great opportunity but I have been working on my music in quite an organic way so I would quite like to keep it like that.”

When she is not working on her music, Miss Hiller is a dance teacher. She is also an actress, and has appeared in Silent Witness and The Bill. She lives in East Barnet.
