The Scottish National Party manifesto has pledged to “call on the next UK government to support the formal recognition of a Palestinian state”.

The policy document, which was released today, echoed Labour leader Ed Miliband’s call to recognise an independent Palestine.

The SNP said: “We will call on the next UK government to pursue a two state solution for Israel and Palestine and to support the formal recognition of a Palestinian state.”

The party, led by Nicola Sturgeon, made no specific mention of religious slaughter in its manifesto.

In its commitment to animal welfare issues, the party said it would give “consideration to further protection of slaughter”.
