Veteran actor Jon Voight called his daughter Angelina Jolie “ignorant” and “naive” for supporting Palestine and the United Nations.
In a fiery interview with Variety published on Tuesday, Voight, 85, accused Jolie, 49, of having “no idea what’s going on” and living in a “bubble”.
The famous father claimed his daughter's views on the Israel-Hamas war have been “influenced by antisemitic people”
The actor, who is one of Hollywood’s most outspoken Trump supporters, accused the United Nations of being biased against Israel, labelling its stance on Palestinian refugees antisemitic.
Formerly a special envoy of the UN High Commission for Refugees, Voight’s daughter Jolie has condemned Israel for its war against Hamas in the wake of October 7.
Voight said Jolie “has been influenced by the UN. From the beginning, it’s been awful with human rights. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel bashing.”
“Angie has a connection to the UN, and she's enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees,” the Oscar winner said, describing the status of Palestinian refugees as a “fraud”.
“They are so naive,” Voight said of those who believe in Palestinian refugee status. “They’re dupes who never get outside of their bubble.”
“Every year, the UN features more antisemitic motions against Israel than the ones offered against Iraq, China and Syria combined,” Voight went on.
He added, “I love my daughter. I don’t want to fight with my daughter.” The father-daughter duo have had a turbulent relationship and did not speak to each other for several years.
Three weeks after October 7, Jolie wrote on Instagram: “Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children.”
Voight responded a day later on X: “I’m very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God’s honor, God’s truths. This is justice for God’s children of the Holy Land.”
During the interview with Variety’s Frank Ockenfels, Voight was interrupted on two occasions by supportive Jewish women who thanked him for his stance on Israel.
A woman carrying a loaf of challah for Shabbat dinner interrupted Voight at a restaurant in Santa Monica to express her gratitude for his support of Israel, saying, "It means so much to all of us."
When the woman suggested he should portray Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a movie, Voight replied, "He’s a great, great man, but I’m not going to play him."
