Triathlete Sara Davis is stepping up a gear. The 37-year-old single mother is preparing to compete in an ironman competition. Ms Davis, an in-house lawyer, will swim 3.8km, cycle 180km and run 42.2km (a full marathon) during the contest, which takes place in Austria next summer. She says: "Everyone thinks I am the biggest meshuganah going, butI love it.
"I've always been into fitness and when my daughter was born I decided that I needed a new challenge. In November 2007, I signed up to do a London triathlon for Norwood and I was hooked. It is great to see my endurance levels improve during training. I can't explain it. It's amazing."
Ms Davis, who lives in Edgware, Middlesex, is hoping to complete the challenge in around 13-and-a-half hours, raising money for a Jewish charity. All competitors have up to 17 hours in which to complete the race. She is training six times a week in preparation
- and sometimes twice a day.
Ms Davis is due to run her first marathon in Athens this October.
"I am lucky that
I have an au pair and
a very supportive family. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them."
She has previously raced in Barcelona, Athens, New York, Switzerland, Watford and, last but not least, Milton Keynes.
