Could Sam Lazarus's rendition of My Yiddishe Mamma be the next big viral hit? His family have posted a video on YouTube of Mr Lazarus singing the Yiddish classic at a party and concert held to celebrate his 100th birthday.
"One hundred is the new 20," said grandson Sheldon Lazarus. "We're hoping that JC readers will make Sam a massive hit."
Mr Lazarus was born in Leeds, but later moved to Cleethorpes. He ran a tailor's shop in Grimsby and was a member of the local Jewish community.
He moved back to Leeds about 10 years ago, and only moved into the Donisthorpe Old Age Home last year. His rabbi, from the Vilna Shul in Leeds, attended the concert, but one special guest was unable to make it. Mr Lazarus's five-year-old granddaughter Bathsheba wrote to the Queen to invite her to the party but sadly she couldn't make it. Instead a lady-in-waiting sent HRH's best wishes.Who knows, maybe she'll catch up on YouTube.
