Councillor Robert Davis has been elected deputy leader of Westminster Council. Mr Davis, 50, is the civil partner of Sir Simon Milton, who recently stepped down as council leader to become Boris Johnson’s senior planning adviser.

Mr Davis has served as a Westminster councillor for the past 26 years and was thought to be the youngest-ever Lord Mayor — a post he took at the age of 38 and held from 1996 to 1997.

What’s in his in-tray? “My responsibility is the built environment, and the biggest thing on my agenda is preparing for the Olympics. Eighty-five per cent of people coming over for the Olympics will stay in our hotels and use our shops. We are able to cope with that. We need to get our act together and invest in infrastructure.”

As cabinet member for the built environment, he is responsible for planning the mayoralty and special events. He is also Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London and chair of the London Mayors’ Association, which represents Mayors of all London boroughs. Mr Davis is a solicitor at London firm Freeman Box. 

Home is in Little Venice. He is a member of Marble Arch synagogue. He and Sir Simon entered into a civil partnership in a ceremony conducted by Rabbi Mark Winer last year.
