The head of Israel’s intelligence agency has revealed that dozens of Iranian attacks against the Jewish state and diaspora have been thwarted by Israeli intelligence.

In David Barnea’s inaugural public speech since his promotion to the role in June, he said: "We stopped attacks in Cyprus against a businessman.

“In Turkey, we stopped attacks against businessmen and diplomats… and in Colombia, we saved a businessman,”

These comments come days after CIA Director William Burns was delivered key intelligence by Barnea.

Barnea explained that “this state terrorism ordered by [Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei] and perpetrated by the IRGC and other Iranian security organisations” was the product of an organised strategy.

“It is not the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is the terror republic of Iran,” he stressed.

Barnea refused to the past ten years as “the decade of Islamic terrorism,” including the: “fall and rise of al-Qaeda, terrorism from Palestinians, Hezbollah and Iran.”

On the question of a possible renewal of Iran’s nuclear deal, Barnea explained: “Once the deal is signed, there will be no restraint on Iranian terrorism,” given the funding it will funnel towards Iran’s regime.

"Iranian terror is a set part of the Iranian threat to many countries all over the world. It is a central aspect of the ayatollahs’ world view."

He accused the Islamic Republic of attempting to  “perpetrate terrorism on US and EU territory,” and referred to its foiled plans to assassinate former US national security advisor John Bolton and the Trump secretary of state Mike Pompeo.

“Iran talks with the US about the nuclear program while trying to murder Americans.

“If Iranian proxies come after us, we will hit Iran directly. We will convince the leader that terrorism is too costly,” he continued.

Ex IDF Intelligence chief Aharon Zeevi Farkash warned that the country’s government remained unprepared for a possible onslaught of Hezbollah rocket attacks and that a huge rethinking of Israel’s home front would be needed to weather such a storm. He also suggested a preemptive strike against the Iran-backed militia might be needed.

Farkash said that Israel needed to deal separately with the government of Lebanon and Syria’s Assad regime, and Hezbollah, but that the latter’s influence over the region could not be disregarded.

Former IDF Intelligence analysis chief Yossi Kuperwasser promoted a potential preemptive strike against Hezbollah together with experts ICT assembled to study such a scenario.

Shalom Ben-Hanan, an outgoing Shin Bet official, also pointed toward the dangers of the Palestinian Authority’s potentially imminent collapse given the age of president Mahmoud Abbas.

He said a PA collapse could release fresh waves of terror which the PA currently help to keep in check although he touched on the Authority’s failure to adequately restrain West Bank terrorism.
