Ranting taxi-driver gets year community order

A taxi driver who screamed "all Jewish children must die," at Jewish mothers outside Manchester's King David School, has been found guilty of religious harassment by a jury and sentenced to community service.

Taha Osman, 36, from Blackley in north Manchester, was stuck in traffic outside the school last October when he became involved in an argument with one parent who was collecting her two young children. He also shouted a series of other racist comments, calling Jews "animals" who did not belong in the country, which were heard by several witnesses.

At an earlier hearing in June, Mr Osman denied that his tirade caused religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress. But a jury found him guilty of the offence.

On Monday, Judge David Stockdale QC, sitting at Manchester Crown Court, sentenced Mr Osman to a 12-month community order, including 180 hours of unpaid work.
