The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today that the current Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Ron Prosor, is to be the new Ambassador to the UN.

His replacement in London will be Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's current National Security Adviser, Uzi Arad.

The appointment of a UN Ambassador has been a running sore within the coalition as successive candidates have turned it down, some publicly. Other suggested names are said to have caused friction between the PM and the Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman.

UPDATE: Sources close to the MFA suggest that although the appointment has been announced, it has yet to be confirmed by Mr Lieberman.
