A prominent grassroots organisation has reported a pro-Palestinian group to the Labour Party for “highly offensive” language in an appeal to take part in the Shami Chakrabarti antisemitism inquiry.
The inquiry, which will stop receiving submissions on Friday, was set up after more than 20 Labour members, councillors and MPs were suspended in the last few months.
North West Friends of Israel co-chair Anthony Dennison said Manchester Palestine Action had showed “how blinded they are” in its Facebook post today.
The MPA suggested that supporters submitting to the inquiry should “maybe mention media obsession & internal push to get rid of Corbyn.
“Also highlight Tory/Zio troll (Guido) hunting for comments and taking them out of context, to incriminate and the pseudo shock/horror/outrage at this so-called antisemitism by members while ignoring the hatefilled [sic] bigotry coming from the Israeli government”.
The Guido Fawkes news site has consistently reported on suspensions within the Labour Party.
In an email to Labour which he posted on Facebook, Mr Dennison wrote: “‘Zio’ is highly offensive. It is derogatory and it is insulting. ‘Zio’ is modern parlance for ‘yid’.”
The post has been altered this afternoon to read “Tory/ troll,” removing the word “Zio”.
Mr Dennison, whose group’s event on Sunday addressing antisemitism in Labour attracted more than 200 people, observed that the MPA “refer to our "shock/horror/outrage" as ‘pseudo’.
“How dare they? I assure you antisemitism, which is on the rise not just in the Labour Party but across Europe, is shocking; it is horrific and it is outrageous and anyone who says otherwise is simply trying to divert you from your task.”
He continued: “Israel is not on trial here and comparisons with elsewhere are irrelevant.”
MPA did not respond to a request for comment.
